The Los Angeles Dodgers are reeling after returning from a 1-5 road trip. However, there is good news to greet them. Third baseman Max Muncy is back for tonight’s Dodgers game against the Colorado Rockies, and high-leverage left-hander Alex Vesia will be activated tomorrow, according to Blake Williams of Dodger Blue. To make room on the roster, they optioned catcher Chuckie Robinson to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Do the Dodgers Have a Reliable Closer Option Now?
Vesia has been one of the more reliable relievers out of the Dodgers’ bullpen. In August, however, he started struggling with the velocity and the location of his fastball, leading to an ERA over 4.00 for the month. This is more than two runs over his normal range. It was clear that something was bothering him. He was placed on the injured list with a right oblique strain at the end of last month. Thankfully, Vesia didn’t miss more than the expected time with a tricky injury.
The Missing Offensive Link
Muncy has missed significant time this season due to two separate injuries. He had a bad knee bruise at the beginning of July, and then had a ribcage injury just a few weeks ago after coming. The Dodgers’ offense has suffered in his absence. They average over two runs more per game when he is active than when he is not. To put it more bluntly, Los Angeles is 20 games over .5oo when he is in the lineup, and has a losing record when he is not.
More Good News
Muncy and Vesia are much-needed reinforcements to an offense and a bullpen that needs a shot in the arm. Starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow, who missed his scheduled start last week with a stiff back, will also return to the mound tonight as a bonus. The Dodgers need all the help they can get right now if they want to make it to October and beyond.
