Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that first baseman Freddie Freeman will be return from the 10-day injured list on Friday, according to David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports. The Dodgers return to Los Angeles for a six-game homestand against the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies.
Freeman hasn’t appeared in any rehab games but has been taking live batting practice over the past few days. A slip in the shower sidelined him in late March after he tweaked his surgically repaired right ankle. This marks his first stint on the injured list since 2020. Enrique Hernandez has filled in at first base in Freeman’s absence.
Freddie Freeman’s Return Date Revealed
Freeman is slashing .250/.250/.833 with two home runs and four RBI to start the season. He was scratched from the Dodgers’ season opener in Tokyo due to left rib discomfort. The veteran first baseman originally sprained his right ankle on a play at first base last September and also dealt with fractured rib cartilage. He struggled through the first two rounds of the postseason but bounced back in the World Series, homering in each of the first four games and driving in 12 runs as the Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in five games.
In December, Freeman underwent surgery on his right ankle, which involved debridement and the removal of loose bodies. He recovered as expected and performed strongly during Cactus League play in spring training.
His return couldn’t come at a better time for the Dodgers. The team has struggled on their road trip, losing four of their last five games, including a three-game losing streak.
Freeman is in his fourth season with the Dodgers, slashing .314/.398/.522 with 74 home runs and 295 RBI in 566 games. The 2024 World Series MVP has played 16 major league seasons, tallying 2,035 games with 345 home runs and 1,236 RBI.
