Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman is considered day-to-day after tweaking his surgically repaired ankle, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. Freeman will be held out of the series opener against the Atlanta Braves, who are visiting Dodger Stadium. Manager Dave Roberts called the incident a “mishap.” Per Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register, the veteran first baseman slipped in the shower this weekend, and the ankle, which is still not 100%, is swollen. The Dodgers prefer that Freeman rest it. They will see how he feels tomorrow.
Freddie Freeman had a “mishap” entering the shower at home and tweaked the same surgically-repaired right ankle, Dave Roberts said. Won’t be available tonight and is day to day. https://t.co/X6BSRn6Pte

Freddie Freeman Considered Day-to-Day After Tweaking Ankle
Under the Knife
Freeman, who walked away with a World Series ring as well as the Fall Classic’s Most Valuable Player Award, had surgery last December to repair the ankle. The operation removed foreign bodies and fixed torn tendons. This resulted in a walking boot for several weeks and a prognosis that was supposed to limit Freeman’s participation in spring training. However, Freeman still managed a .300 batting average in exhibition games.
Off to a Hot Start
If the ankle was inhibiting Freeman recently, it is hard to tell. The All-Star has two pivotal home runs and three runs batted in the last three games. His contributions have helped the Dodgers off to a 5-0 start. The best beginning of a season for Los Angeles since 1981. Coincidentally, that season culminated in a World Series championship.
In Other News
Right-handed reliever Evan Phillips threw a bullpen session. It appears that the next step is a rehab assignment. Phillips missed the World Series roster due to a shoulder injury. Dave Roberts has projected the Dodgers’ closer’s return to be early to mid-April. That is, if there are no setbacks.
For the Dodgers’ part, they hope there are no detours on the road to recovery for either player. It is no secret that they have a shot at a record regular season win total, and the first back-to-back World Championships in 25 years, if they manage to stay healthy.
