As the offseason has progressed, the growing question has been what will the outfield look like for the 2023 season?
We know Mookie will take the right field again and Trayce Thompson and Chris Taylor could see some time in left or centerfield but the options were still somewhat limited.
In hopes of solving that problem, the Dodgers signed veteran outfielder David Peralta to a one-year, $6.5 million deal on Friday. According to sources who confirmed with MLB.com, the contract comes with incentives that could add up to $2 million to Peralta’s deal.
We asked Dodger fans what they thought of the recent signing and here’s what they had to say:
The Dodgers seemed like they were planning to move forward by encouraging more of a “youth movement” but with the recent addition, some thought Peralta could threaten James Outman’s chances at some more regular time in the outfield. But others think Outman and others are safe for now.
One good thing about signing Peralta who’s spent the past nine seasons in the major leagues is that we won’t have to face him anymore.
According to Statmuse.com, David Peralta has a batting average of .251 with 96 hits, 8 homers, 40 RBIs, and 37 runs scored in 111 games against the Dodgers in his career. If you can’t beat him, sign him right?
Across his 2022 season which was split between the Rays and Diamondbacks, he posted a .251 AVG with 12 homers, and 59 RBI. It’ll be fun to see what this guy does in Dodger Blue.
