The Dodgers kept things close against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday, but came up short in walk-off fashion by a final score of 5-4 in 10 innings.
Tony Gonsolin made his third consecutive start against the Marlins dating back to Aug. 18, 2023, and he retired the first six men in order on just 21 pitches while setting down three on strikes.
Andy Pages was given his first chance to hit in the top third of the Dodgers lineup, and he immediately delivered with a ringing double the opposite way off of Cal Quantrill in the top of the first inning. Freddie Freeman cashed him in with a single to put the Dodgers up early.
The emerging Dodger killer Dane Myers smacked a leadoff single off Gonsolin in the bottom of the third inning to give Miami their first baserunner. Liam Hicks smacked a 1-1 fastball on the inside part of the plate to deep right field, where Pages robbed him of a home run on a leaping grab, doubling off Myers on a 98.5 mile per hour dart back to first base.

The Dodgers were unable to repeat their offensive romp of Quantrill in their previous series, as he rebounded to go five strong innings of one run ball while striking out six. Gonsolin was headed for another dominant start after four shutout innings before Hicks got his revenge with a two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, giving Miami their first lead of the series.
Gonsolin joins Yoshinobu Yamamoto as just the second Dodgers pitcher this season to have two consecutive starts recording at least eight strikeouts.
Shohei Ohtani quickly assured that Gonsolin would be off the hook for the night, as he smacked the first pitch he saw from Anthony Veneziano into the second deck to tie the game, his sixth home run over his last five games at loanDepot Park. Ohtani is now the first player this season to reach 10 home runs and 10 stolen bases on the season.
Freddie Freeman continues to haunt the Marlins, as he smacked his second home run in as many games to give the Dodgers the lead right back. His 42 home runs are the most against Miami by any opposing player.

The Marlins took the lead right back in the bottom half of the sixth inning, as Connor Norby collected an RBI double followed by Dane Myers putting Miami back in front with an RBI single off of Luis García.
The Dodgers had the tying run at first base after James Outman walk in the top of the seventh inning, and after Hyeseong Kim reached on a fielder’s choice, Ohtani lined a game-tying RBI double that brought home the speedy Kim all the way from first base.

The Marlins put the bases loaded against Anthony Banda in the bottom of the eighth inning, putting Myers to the plate once again against the left-hander. Instead of going deep to give the Marlins the lead, Myers lined a sharp ground ball to Max Muncy, converting the rare 5-2-3 double play to preserve the tie.
Both teams were held scoreless in the ninth inning, giving the Dodgers their second extra inning affair against Miami over their last eight games. The Dodgers put two men on with one out for Will Smith, but the catcher grounded into an inning ending double play to give Miami a chance to walk the game off.
J.P. Feyereisen made his first appearance back with the Dodgers, and after putting the reigning NL Player of the Week Kyle Stowers on intentionally, he allowed two straight singles to Agustín Ramírez and Jesús Sánchez, the latter of which snapped the Dodgers chances at a season sweep of Miami.
