Here is the final road series of the 2022 season, or it might as well be another home series at Dodger Stadium South. Nine games are now left in the season, and the Dodgers have already tied their franchise record in wins in 106.
After the three-game series against the Padres, the Dodgers will commence the season with a six-game set against the Colorado Rockies. Who knows, this Padres series could be a mini playoff series. The Dodgers will face the matchup winner between the fourth and fifth seed, and the fifth seed is currently San Diego. The fourth seed will either be the Braves or the Mets.
There are several notes ahead of the end of the regular season. Tony Gonsolin was placed on the injured list at the end of August. The right-hander has posted a 2.10 ERA and was named an All-Star for the first time in his career. Gonsolon will make a rehab start tonight for Triple-A Oklahoma City, who are vying for a playoff spot.
So Gonsolin will likely get only one rehab start before the postseason. Dodger manager Dave Roberts has alluded that if Gonsolin pitches in the playoffs, it will be only four to five innings. It is insane the Dodgers will go into the postseason without Walker Buehler, and most likely, Blake Treinen, and Gonsolin’s status is now in question.
As of now, Dustin May, who is on the injured list, most likely will be used out of the bullpen if healthy come playoff time.
The Dodgers No. 7 ranked prospect Gavin Stone crushed it in his season finale at Triple-A Oklahoma City. He struck out 11 batters in six scoreless innings, and he also only allowed three hits. Stone, since promoted to Triple-A, posted a 1.48 ERA which is a Minor League best. Stone, who the Dodgers drafted in 2020, was named the Dodgers Minor League Player of the Year, along with Diego Cartaya.
So, the Dodgers look to set a new franchise record in wins Tuesday. Despite all the injuries, it’s been a historic season so far.
Left-handers Tyler Anderson and Julio Urias will start for the Dodgers, while for the Padres, they’ll start Blake Snell and Joe Musgrove. Neither team has announced a starter for Thursday.
The first pitch for Tuesday’s game is at 6:40 p.m. Pacific.
