Despite the 31st career multi-home run game by future Hall of Fame infielder/outfielder Mookie Betts, the NL West first place Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the NL West fourth place Arizona Diamondbacks 9-5 in front of a Dodger Stadium crowd of 41,372 on Monday night. It was Dodgers manager Dave Roberts team’s fourth straight loss.

“Certainly encouraged, I thought that, you know, fighting back the way we did, the at-bats, obviously, Mookie really showing life tonight was huge,” Roberts told reporters postgame. “You know, it’s just kind of, you know, it’s hard to start, you know, games behind before you take an at-bat, and, umm… I think the last week we’ve been… we’ve given up runs in the first inning. So, it’s just… we’ve got to put up that zero, kinda get a chance to get the game going, umm… but, it does show something about our offense that we continue to fight,” Roberts added, clearly trying to find a silver lining around an otherwise dark cloud
The other silver lining on Monday was a sixth-inning 389-foot opposite field solo home run to left by international superstar Shohei Ohtani. The Oshu, Japan native now leads all of baseball with his 17 round-trippers.

With the loss and a loss by the Giants, the Dodgers maintained their precarious half-game lead over the idle San Diego Padres in the NL West, so there’s that.
