Dodgers Calling Up Korean Star Hyeseong Kim

May 4, 2025 by Last Word On Baseball

The Dodgers called up Hyeseong Kim from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have decided to call up Korean star Hyeseong Kim, they announced on social media Saturday afternoon. In a corresponding move, Tommy Edman is headed to the injured list with a banged-up ankle. The infielder/outfielder Kim has been trying to find some offensive consistency at Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The Dodgers recalled IF/OF Hyeseong Kim and placed IF/OF Tommy Edman on the injured list with a right ankle inflammation, retroactive to April 30.

Dodgers Call Up Hyeseong Kim

International Reach

The Dodgers signed Kim to a three-year deal out of the Korean Baseball Organization, where the infielder played eight seasons. They were a surprising fit given an already crowded infield. However, Gavin Lux was promptly traded to the Cincinnati Reds, making Kim’s debut a reality sooner rather than later.

Just a Little Seasoning

Even with the move, the slick defensive infielder started the season in the minors out of spring training. The Dodgers wanted the 26-year-old to work on a swing that was more suited to face big-league pitching. He has a modest batting average of .257 in a hitter-friendly league and has eight multi-hit games at Oklahoma City. He has five home runs with 13 stolen bases and has yet to be caught for his thievery. On the other hand, Kim is still a work in progress as he strikes out nearly 25% of the time. However, if he is able to make contact and get on base, look for his speed to be utilized.

Who Plays Where?

It is likely that Kim plays second base, with Kiké Hernández and Miguel Rojas spelling him when needed. However, the one-time infielder has shown he is adept at playing the outfield as well.

Better Safe Than Sorry

With Kim’s promotion, it appears they are being extremely cautious with Tommy Edman, who has proven his worth in spades. But for the young Korean star, the time has come to prove he belongs.
