Dodgers Bullpen Rips Off Kershaw

May 30, 2025 by Think Blue LA

There is no kind or gentle way to put it, the Dodgers bullpen sucks of late – more specifically, 30-year-old Dodgers left-hander Tanner Scott, who turned what should have been Dodgers ace and future first ballot Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw‘s first win of his injury-delayed 2025 season into a no-decision.

Kershaw struck out three in his five-inning start on Wednesday, including Guardians designated hitter José Ramírez twice. (SportsNet LA)

Scott, who entered the game with one out in the bottom of the seventh in relief of Dodgers right-hander Lou Trivino (who allowed one run on five hits in his 1.2 innings of relief of Kershaw), allowed four runs on three hits to the six Guardians batters he faced, doing so on 26 pitches, of which only 18 were strikes.

“It’s sour in the sense of, you know, you win the first two, and you catch a lead going into the eighth inning, and you feel good about the game,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts embarrassingly said to SportsNet LA’s Kirsten Watson postgame. “I thought we did enough to win, but unfortunately, ahh, you know, that eighth-inning got away from us,”

“Frustrating, for sure, but I think at the same time, there’s some progress still, more reps and, you know, overall, to only give up one run and pitch that bad is a good thing, so, just on to the next one,” always-humble 37-year-old Kershaw said postgame, falling on his sword to take the heat off of Scott.

“To only give up one run and pitch that bad is a good thing,” said Kershaw, who did NOT pitch bad. (SportsNet LA)

Dodgers left-hander Alex Vesia entered the game in relief of Scott with one out in that “…got away…” eighth inning, allowing an additional Guardians run on one hit.

“…on to the next one.”
