Dodgers Appear Set with Pitching Plans…For Now

January 22, 2026 by Last Word On Baseball

The Los Angeles Dodgers held an introductory press conference for new right fielder Kyle Tucker today. It seems that as fast as the news cycle refreshes itself, there is always something happening to talk about when it comes to the World Series Champions. And they made news again after the press conference. According to Jack Harris of the California Post, the Dodgers are done acquiring starting pitching, at least for now.

Dodgers President Suggests Pitching Staff is Set for Next Season

What About Freddy Peralta?

Multiple sources close to the organization indicated that the Dodgers were interested in Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta. The right-hander has stabilized the Brewers’ rotation for the last several years, but it seems he won’t make it to Opening Day as a Brewer. However, the asking price for the veteran is said to be high, and the Dodgers seem to be one of the teams that could meet it. The question remains, would they be willing to pay it?

Andrew Friedman said today that, while the Dodgers will continue to look to bolster their roster depth over rest of winter, he doesn’t envision any more “seismic” moves this offseason

Asked specifically if they’re still in the market for starting pitching, he said: “We are not”

Does This Rumor Have Legs?

For what it’s worth, the rumors about Peralta and the Dodgers were heating up a couple of weeks ago. They eventually died down, only to resurface a few days ago. Los Angeles seems to do its due diligence for anyone of value. Recent history suggests they are pretty good at landing who they want.

A Stacked Starting Rotation

The departures of Clayton Kershaw and Dustin May put a dent in the depth of starting pitching. However, the re-entry of Roki Sasaki, Gavin Stone, and River Ryan offsets them. It appears the Dodgers will go with a six-man rotation again in 2026. This, the Dodgers hope, lowers the workload, decreases injury risk, and prepares them for October.

The Plans of Mice and Men

Of course, things don’t often go as planned in baseball or in life. It is best to plan for contingencies. Los Angeles knows this better than most. It is a big reason why they have won back-to-back World Series. Starting pitching and roster construction might be set, but it might not be set in stone, even as we are edging closer to spring training.
