Major League Baseball today announced its preliminary schedule for the 2025 season, with the Dodgers opening the campaign in Asia for the second straight year, this time in Tokyo, Japan on March 18 and March 19 vs. the Chicago Cubs in the Tokyo Series, presented by Guggenheim. The club will then begin its domestic slate with their home opener on March 27 as part of a three-game series vs. the Detroit Tigers. Los Angeles then starts April with three games vs. the Atlanta Braves (March 31-April 2) to close out the first homestand.
The Dodgers will be back home for their second homestand on April 11 vs. the Cubs and, as is tradition, Dodger Stadium will host Jackie Robinson night, Tuesday, April 15 vs. the Colorado Rockies. Another highlight is when the Yankees and Mets come to town for an all-New York City homestand from May 30-June 5. L.A. will renew its rivalry with the Yankees from May 30-June 1, just prior to the New York Mets visiting for a four-game series, June 2–5.
MLB’s balanced schedule returns for the third consecutive season, meaning the Dodgers will play at least one series with every single Major League team either at home or on the road. Next year, in addition to the Tigers, the Dodgers will host the Athletics (May 12–14), Los Angeles Angels (May 16–18), Yankees (May 30-June 1), Chicago White Sox (July 1–3), Houston Astros (July 4–6), Minnesota Twins (July 21–23) and Toronto Blue Jays (Aug. 8–10) in Interleague play. The regular season ends on Sunday, Sept. 28 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. The final home games of the season will be Sept. 18–21 vs. the San Franciso Giants.
The Dodgers will also be home vs. the Giants on Father’s Day (June 15) and the Astros on Independence Day (July 4).
The Tokyo Series is another chapter in the Dodger international story. The Dodgers opened the 2024 season with the Seoul Series in South Korea on March 20 and 21 against the San Diego Padres.
The Dodgers played the Padres in Monterrey, Mexico in 2018. Los Angeles has also played in the 2014 Sydney opener vs. the Diamondbacks, the 2010 exhibition games in Taiwan against the Chinese Professional Baseball League All-Stars, the 2008 exhibition games against the Padres in Beijing, China, the 2003 exhibition games against the Mets in Mexico City and the 1988 exhibition games against the Montreal Expos in San Juan and Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Over the years, the Dodgers have also played additional exhibition games and done barnstorming tours in Japan, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
The Tokyo Series, which will be the latest installment of MLB’s WORLD TOUR, will mark the sixth time in which MLB opens its regular season in Tokyo, and it represents the 25th anniversary of the first-ever regular season games played in Japan in 2000 between the Cubs and the New York Mets. It will also be the first games in Japan since the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics opened the 2019 season at the Tokyo Dome. In addition to the openers in 2000 and 2019, other season openers in Japan took place in 2004 (NYY vs. TB); 2008 (BOS vs. OAK); and 2012 (SEA vs. OAK).
