Dodgers’ Alex Vesia posts on Instagram about loss of newborn daughter

November 7, 2025 by Los Angeles Daily News

Dodgers relief pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife, Kayla, posted on Instagram about the tragic loss that kept him from participating in the World Series.

Vesia’s post referred to a newborn daughter, Sterling Sol, who “went to heaven Sunday, October 26th.” Vesia and his wife were expecting the birth of their first child when it was announced by the Dodgers that Vesia would not be on their roster for the World Series due to “a deeply personal family matter.”

Vesia’s fellow relievers had his uniform number “51” on their caps during the World Series and pitchers from their opponent, the Toronto Blue Jays, joined them in doing so during the World Series.

“Our little angel we love you forever & you’re with us always,” the Instagram post said. “Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.

“Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them.

“Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen ALL your messages, comments and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort.

“Lastly, we’d like to thank Cedars Sinai and all the medical staff who helped Kayla and Sterling. Every person we came across was truly so incredible.

“With Love, the Vesias”

Vesia also did not attend the World Series parade and stadium rally earlier this week. The Dodgers picked up the club option in the left-hander’s contract on Thursday, bringing him back for 2026 at a $3.65 million salary.
