Late Monday morning, MLB Trade Rumors reported that the Dodgers had signed 25-year-old right-handed starting pitcher Matt Sauer to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Major League Spring Training camp, citing ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel as it’s source.
Sauer, who is represented by Paragon Sports International Group in Beverly Hills and who will be 26 on January 21, appeared in 14 games with the Kansas City Royals in 2024 (no starts), finishing with an 0-0 record and less-than-ideal 7.71 ERA over his 16.1 Major League innings pitched. He allowed 14 earned runs on 23 hits, including three home runs. Along the way, he struck out nine and walked 11 of the 84 opposing batters he faced while with the Royals.
Although Dodgers pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report for Spring Training on (or around) February 10, 2025, it is extremely unlikely that the Santa Maria, CA native and second-round draft pick in 2017 by the New York Yankees out of Righetti High School in Santa Maria will break camp on the Dodgers 40-man roster. It is far more likely that he will begin his professional career at the Single-A level (Rancho Cucamong or Great Lakes), or possibly at Double-A Tulsa.
Regardless, welcome to the Dodgers family, Matt!
