The Dodgers added outfielder Ryan Ward and left-handed pitcher Robinson Ortiz to the 40-man roster on Thursday.
In order to make room, the Dodgers outrighted outfielder Justin Dean and right-handed pitcher Michael Grove, and designated right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin for assignment. Gonsolin, a 2022 All-Star who made his Major League debut with the Dodgers in 2019, has played six seasons with the club.
Gonsolin underwent season-ending right elbow surgery in August. He has a career 37–13 record with a 3.34 ERA in 86 games with the Dodgers.
Ward led the Minors with 36 home runs and 122 runs batted in. His 73 extra-base hits and 315 total bases were a Minor League best, as well.
He was named the 2025 Pacific Coast League Most Valuable Player after leading the PCL in slugging percentage (.557) and OPS (.937). He also received the Joe Bauman Award for leading the Minor Leagues in home runs.
Ward was selected as the designated hitter for the league’s All-Star team. He was the PCL Player of the Week after slashing .429/.556/.857/1.413 with nine hits (six extra-base), six RBI and six walks in six games between July 7 and July 13.
In his sixth season with the Dodgers, the 27-year-old slashed .290/.380/.557/.937 in Triple-A. He had a 1.038 OPS against right-handed pitchers with 31 home runs against them.
Ward set OKC’s Bricktown era (since 1998) single-season records in hits, runs and RBI in 2025. He hit the second-most home runs in one season.
In three seasons with Oklahoma City, Ward also established Bricktown era career records for home runs (90) and RBI (318).
Ward has a .265/.341/.503/.844 career slash line in the Minor Leagues with 150 home runs. He was selected in the eighth round of the 2019 amateur draft from Bryant University (Rhode Island).

Robinson had a 2.73 ERA in 48 appearances in the Dodgers’ Minor League system this season. He recorded 72 strikeouts in 59 1/3 innings pitched between Single-A Great Lakes, Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The 25-year-old was impressive in 15 games with the Tulsa Drillers. He had a 1.69 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 12.7 strikeouts-per-nine-innings ratio. He also recorded four saves in 2025, which were the first in his career.
Robinson has spent five seasons in the Dodger organization since he signed a Minor League contract with the team out of the Dominican Republic in 2017. He has a 3.48 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in his Minor League career.
