Dodgers pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report for spring training on Feb. 12. As we count down the days until camp begins, we are going through the various position groups to give a breakdown of where the roster stands. Today, we look at the outfielders.
2025 RECAP
For the second winter in a row last year, the Dodgers took a one-year gamble on a veteran free agent outfielder. Teoscar Hernandez rewarded them with an All-Star season in 2024 (and earned a new three-year contract). Last winter, they tried again with Michael Conforto. It was a mistake. Conforto (.199/.305/.333) was one of the least productive hitters in MLB during his one year with the Dodgers, one of the big reasons Dodgers outfielders ranked 20th in MLB in batting average, 26th in on-base percentage and 14th in slugging percentage. After a hot start, Hernandez was hampered by leg injuries and failed to match his 2024 production, becoming a particular problem defensively after moving to right field. Andy Pages, on the other hand, emerged as an everyday player at the big-league level with 27 home runs, 86 RBIs and 14 stolen bases (second on the team behind Shohei Ohtani). Not a natural center fielder, Pages nonetheless performed well there – most notably with his game-saving catch in Game 7 of the World Series.
HOW IT LOOKS RIGHT NOW
The Dodgers didn’t take any one-year gambles to address their need in the outfield this winter. They simply signed the best player available on the free-agent market, adding Kyle Tucker on a unique four-year, $240 million contract. Tucker, 29, is a four-time All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger and one-time Gold Glove award winner. His addition will allow the Dodgers to move Hernandez back to left field, where his sub-par defense is less of an issue, pair Pages with Tommy Edman in center field (once Edman has recovered from ankle surgery) and not have to force an Alex Call-Ryan Ward platoon into the lineup on a daily basis.
THE NEXT LAYER
Outfield is far and away the deepest position in the Dodgers’ organization.
The Dodgers had four players listed on Baseball America’s Top 100 prospects heading into the 2026 season. All of them are outfielders – Josue DePaula, Zyhir Hope, Eduardo Quintero and Mike Sirota. Kendall George was the Dodgers’ first pick in the 2023 draft and stole 100 bases with Class-A Great Lakes last season. Two more outfield prospects were acquired in trades last July – James Tibbs III (the 13th overall pick in the 2024 draft) and Zach Ehrhard – and another (Charles Davalan) was added in the draft.
The group just barely touched Double-A last season, however, and it will likely be at least another year before any are seen in Los Angeles.
MOVES THEY COULD MAKE
The 2026 outfield seems set with the trio of Tucker, Hernandez and Pages backed by Edman and Call. But the bubble of highly-regarded prospects rising through the Dodgers’ system gives them valuable trade capital for the future – Tarik Skubal anyone?
