LA has signed six of its seven players eligible for salary arbitration, and exchanged salaries with left-hander Alex Vesia on January 9 ahead of a potential hearing.
Seven Dodgers players were eligible for salary arbitration this offseason, and six have signed contracts for the 2025 season, avoiding a hearing by the exchange date of Thursday, January 9.
Left-hander Alex Vesia is the only arbitration-eligible Dodger without a deal for 2025. On the exchange date, Vesia filed for a salary of $2.35 million and the Dodgers filed at $2.05 million. If the two sides can’t agree on a new deal, a three-person arbitration panel will pick one salary or the other between January 27 and February 14, whenever the hearing is scheduled.
In the 11 offseasons under the Andrew Friedman-led Dodgers front office, 85 players entered January eligible for arbitration. And 77 of them (90.6 percent) reached agreement by the exchange deadline. Of the previous seven to not reach deals by the exchange date, five of them signed multi-year contracts.
The Dodgers have had only two arbitration hearings in the previous 17 years, both in 2020.
The offseason began with nine Dodgers players eligible for arbitration. But reliever Connor Brogdon, with his three years, 139 days of service time, cleared waivers and was sent outright off the 40-man in November. Brogdon elected free agency rather than accept the minor league assignment.
On the non-tender deadline of November 22, pitchers Tony Gonsolin and Dustin May each avoided arbitration by signing 2025 deals after missing the entire season after elbow surgeries. Both pitchers signed for the same salary as 2024, with Gonsolin getting $5.4 million and May at $2.135 million.
Second baseman Gavin Lux was also eligible for salary arbitration for the second time, with over four years of service time, but was traded to the Reds on January 6.
That left five more arbitration-eligible Dodgers in January, all of them relief pitchers. Michael Kopech, Evan Phillips, Brusdar Graterol, and Anthony Banda signed one-year deals, leaving only Vesia unsigned.
