Alex Freeland, Major League Baseball’s №35 top prospect according to MLB.com, earned his call-up to the Major Leagues on Tuesday after four Minor League seasons.
Freeland will replace infielder Hyeseong Kim on the active roster. Kim was placed on the injured list with left shoulder bursitis.
Kim is batting .304 and has a .744 OPS in 58 games during his first season in the Major Leagues.
Freeland was selected in the third round of the 2022 MLB Draft by the Dodgers out of Central Florida. Since then, he’s worked his way to become the №3 overall prospect in the organization.
The 23-year-old fills a need for the Dodgers on the left side of the infield with Kim, Max Muncy and Kiké Hernández on the injured list. Freeland appeared in 67 games at shortstop this season with Triple-A Oklahoma City and 26 games at third base.
Freeland is batting .253/.377/.421/.799 in 94 games this season with 12 home runs and 17 stolen bases.
He’s a switch hitter with most of his power coming from the left side. Nine of his 13 homers with the Oklahoma City Comets were as a left-handed batter. In 2024, he hit 15 home runs from the left side.
Freeland’s 26 doubles this season lead Dodger Minor Leaguers through July. He also ranks third in the organization with 71 RBI.
