The Los Angeles Dodgers are in the midst of their longest road trip of the season at 10 games comprised with series against the Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins and Arizona Diamondbacks.
The current stretch is particularly tough as the Dodgers won’t have another off day until returning to Southern California on May 12.
While long road trips can be challenging for teams, manager Dave Roberts took a positive view as the Dodgers continue their schedule.
“We’re used to it,” he said of being away from home.
“It’s always fun to play the Braves, so just going into Atlanta, that’s going to be a really fun series. We’ve got some guys that live in that Miami area, so there’s going to be some guys that are looking forward to going home.
“And then we finish up the road trip with four versus the Diamondbacks, it’s within the division, meaningful games, so we’ll be ready for that as well. So I think this one is going to fly by because of what we’re up against. It’s going to be a fun one.”
The Dodgers and Braves have been two of the better teams in the National League over the last few years, and they’ve met in the postseason three times since 2018.
Moreover, Miami is a city that players always look forward to visiting every season, and the Diamondbacks are a team on the rise that has attempted to challenge the Dodgers in the National League West recently.
Their meeting with the Diamondbacks is going to be a first for the teams this year, and just the Dodgers’ second series against an NL West opponent.
After the Dodgers complete their road trip, they return home for nine games against the Athletics, Los Angeles Angels and Diamondbacks.
Dave Roberts: Dodgers’ schedule ‘unique’
The Dodgers played their third and final series of the regular season against the Chicago Cubs last month, a rare occurrence for non-divisional opponents.
“It is,” Roberts said when asked if the Dodgers finishing their season series with the Cubs in April is peculiar.
“And some of the teams in our division, we don’t see until June. To know we’re going to be done with these guys in a couple weeks for the whole season, is unique.
“I try not to overthink the logic behind scheduling, because obviously it’s a tough job, but it is interesting how certain teams we’re going to be done with and certain teams we don’t see for quite some time.”
