After a rough 4-5 start to the 2025 season, 27-year-old Dodgers right-hander Dustin May gave every indication that he may (no pun intended) be back to the form that earned him the social media nickname @d_maydabeast in the Dodgers dominating 6-2 win over the Chicago White Sox in front of a sold out Dodger Stadium crowd of 53,530 on Thursday night.
“Yeah, it was better, it was definitely better command,” the hard-throwing Justin, TX native and Dodgers third-round draft pick in 2016 out of Northwest High School in Justin told SportsNet LA’s Kirsten Watson postgame. “The guys made some really good plays and they put some runs on the board early and that really helped me,” he added.
May, who is know for his animated (and often profane) emotions while on the mound, allowed two runs on four hits to Chicago after taking a perfect game into the fifth inning. Unfortunately, those two runs came on a 404-foot home run to right-center field by White Sox center fielder Brooks Baldwin with no outs in the top of the eighth, prompting Dodgers manager Dave Roberts to pull him after the longest start of his six-year MLB career.

“He was really good, it was good to see him bounce back from that game in Kansas City,” Roberts said postgame. “I thought the delivery was fantastic, I thought the pitch execution, getting strike one, you know, very efficient,” Roberts added.

May’s final line on Thursday was two runs on four hits, with one walk and nine strikeouts in his 7.0-inning start. With the win he is now 5-5 on the season, but with a less-than-stellar 4.52 ERA. But here again, if Thursday’s game is any indication, it appears that @d_maydabeast is back!
