Clayton Kershaw is back with the Dodgers for an 18th major league season, after signing a one-year, $7.5 million contract for his age-37 season with Los Angeles.
Kershaw’s contract was finalized on February 13, 2025, two days after the first spring training workout for Dodgers pitchers and catchers. He can earn another $8.5 million in bonuses based on games started and days on the active roster.
When Kershaw throws a pitch in 2025, he’ll tie outfielder Zack Wheat and shortstop Bill Russell for the most seasons played for the Dodgers in franchise history.
For the second straight season, Kershaw is coming off surgery from the previous November. After his 2023 shoulder surgery, the left-hander was limited to only seven starts in 2024, a season that was cut short by a left foot injury that required surgery after the postseason. Kershaw also had knee surgery in November to repair a torn meniscus.
To make room for Kershaw on the 40-man roster, pitcher River Ryan was placed on the 60-day injured list.
