The Los Angeles Dodgers became the first team in 25 years to repeat as World Series champions when they took down the Toronto Blue Jays in seven games.
The Dodgers overcame numerous injuries during the regular season to not only get back to the postseason, but also capture their ninth World Series title in franchise history.
The Dodgers are in an enviable position going forward thanks to their star-studded roster and seemingly limitless resources to continue improving. They are the betting favorite to win the 2026 World Series, and a potential three-peat is something multiple players have already discussed.
During an appearance on “Literally! with Rob Lowe,” Clayton Kershaw said he believes the Dodgers becoming an unstoppable force is a good thing for baseball because of the attention they draw:
“I think that was the way the Yankees were. When I was growing up, the Yankees were the best team, in the World Series and winning all those. But I think that’s good for baseball. I really do. Having a team that you either love, because that’s your team, or you hate because they keep winning, that’s good for baseball. You don’t want to be indifferent. I think it’s good to have that. That’s what viewership is. I think this postseason, obviously with our Japan fanbase, and being in Canada, it was the highest-watched postseason in a long time. So I think it’s all good for baseball.”
For as much criticism as they have gotten from fans and other team owners, the Dodgers continue to be one of the most popular teams in baseball.
The team drew 4 million fans at Dodger Stadium for the first time ever this year and led the league in average road attendance.
The Dodgers have also become the de facto home team in Japan thanks to the presence of Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki.
All of those reasons, coupled with the Toronto Blue Jays advancing to the World Series, helped this year’s Fall Classic set several viewership records.
Yankees owner ‘concerned’ about Dodgers
New York Yankees chairman Hal Steinbrenner recently commented on the Dodgers’ World Series run and fears they are only going to get stronger due to their financial advantages.
Steinbrenner went on to correctly point out that teams spending big in free agency does not necessarily correlate to winning World Series championships.
