Bobby Miller Likely Making Spot Start For Dodgers During Rockies Series

April 14, 2025 by Dodger Blue

The Los Angeles Dodgers have tapped into their pitching depth early this season, with Justin Wrobleski and Landon Knack both making spot starts in the past week.

Wrobleski was optioned back to Triple-A Oklahoma City but Knack remains with the Dodgers.

The Dodgers are in the middle of a six-game homestand and will need another spot starter for their series finale against the Colorado Rockies so Yoshinobu Yamamoto can remain on his schedule of pitching once per week.

“Yoshi is not going to go on Wednesday, so we’ve got to backfill. We’re going to get somebody here,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed.

All signs point to the Dodgers recalling Bobby Miller Oklahoma City. He was pulled in the third inning of his start on Friday after throwing just 55 pitches.

“Was he? That’s interesting,” Roberts said coyly when informed of such information and asked if Miller was potentially joining the Dodgers.

Miller went into Spring Training among the candidates competing for the fifth spot in the Dodgers’ Opening Day rotation. That was interrupted when the right-hander was hit in the head by a comebacker.

Miller avoided a fracture but went into concussion protocol and was limited to just the one Cactus League appearance.

The 26-year-old has made three starts for the Comets to begin the 2025 season, going 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA and 1.42 WHIP with 11 strikeouts against 11 walks in 12 innings pitched.

Dave Roberts wants Bobby Miller to control emotions

Miller is coming off a disappointing 2024 season with the Dodgers that saw him go 2-4 with an 8.52 ERA, 6.98 FIP and 1.77 WHIP in 56 innings over 13 starts.

Roberts noted in Spring Training that he wanted to see Miller compose himself better on the mound. “I want to see controlling of emotions, I want to see better execution of pitches, I want to see better sequencing and using his pitch mix the right way,” Roberts said of Miller’s development.

“I think all those things weren’t in sync last year. I do believe he’s healthy, with a lot of work on his part. So I think if that’s the case, good things are going to happen.”
