Betts back to old ways since fracturing toe

Betts is hitting .351 with a .901 OPS in the nine games since he fractured his toe while walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Mookie Betts’ 2025 has featured a pair of unorthodox setbacks, ranging from him contracting a stomach bug before the Dodgers left for Tokyo to him fracturing his toe on his way to use the restroom in the middle of the night.

The stomach bug caused Betts to drop to just 157 lb, and although he found his power stroke during the first homestand of the season, he has hit just six home runs since April 2 while his OPS hasn’t eclipsed .800 since the Dodgers were in Atlanta in early May. In the six games before his freak toe injury, he slumped during the team’s six game road trip to the tune of just a .160 average with a single RBI and a .410 OPS.

When things started to look like they were compounding on Betts, he found a way to finally break through on offense. Betts’ toe isn’t healed, but in the nine games since returning, he is hitting .351 with a home run and a .901 OPS while tallying multiple hits in four contests. Much of his recent success is attributed to finding the positives throughout each game, with Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register noting that Betts was able to find some clarity during his down time.

“I definitely feel like I’m in a better spot,” he said, his average now up to .269 and his OPS at .766 (both would still represent career-lows). “It’s just continuing to stack positive days. When you do go 0 for 4 or whatever or hit a little rut, it’s important that I believe in my process and keep stacking good days.”
