One of the last holes on the Los Angeles Dodgers roster is a corner outfielder. Free agent Kyle Tucker is still on the market. Is this a signing that is meant to happen or will the Toronto Blue Jays swoop into nab him?
A Legitimate Need
The Dodgers outfield production from the corner outfield spots was alarmingly poor in 2025. Teoscar Hernández struggled with injuries for most of the year. Michael Conforto just plain struggled. Their defense was weighed and found wanting. Los Angeles needs a better option this season if they want to continue their winning ways.
Recent History
The Dodgers were early favorites to sign the right fielder as far back as May 2025. After all, they have the financial flexibility and the desire to win three World Series in a row. However, the rumored price tag for Tucker of $400 million for ten years proved to be too rich for the Dodgers. Apparently, Every other team is hesitating at such an ask as well.
Is it a Blip or a Crater?
Tucker put up impressive numbers for most of the first half of 2025. He had a batting average over .27o with double-digit home runs and stolen bases. All the while, Tucker played excellent defensively in right field. Then, he hurt his hand sliding into second base. His production cratered for the rest of the season as he played through the injury.
The Changing Market
As a result, it appears that Tucker is open to signing a short term deal with a higher AAV. Not surprisingly, the Dodgers are showing renewed interest. Now, the Blue Jays remain the favorite. But don’t count the Dodgers out until Tucker signs on the dotted line.
The only thing that is certain right now is that the Hot Stove is heating up.
