It’s not a matter of if future first-ballot Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw will get his 3,000th career strikeout in his start against the Chicago White Sox at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday, it’s a matter of will it be in the first or second inning.
As every Dodgers (and baseball) fan knows, the 36-year-old Dallas, TX native and Dodgers first round draft pick in 2006 out of Highland Park High School in Dallas collected his 2,997th career strikeout in the Dodgers 3-1 win over the Colorado Rockies at mile-high Coors Field on Thursday, thereby leaving him three Ks shy of 3,000 – a feat accomplished by only 19 pitchers in MLB’s 156-year history.

“Yeah, it would be, it would be very special, it would be,” Kershaw answered, when SportsNet LA’s David Vassegh asked Kershaw if it would be special for him to get number 3,000 in front of the home field crowd at Dodger Stadium. “Yeah, I mean, I know I had eight to go, Freddie’s really good at reminding me every day,” he added with a smile.
