A home run for Altadena: Dodgers Dreamfields to bring hope and healing to Loma Alta Park

by Erin Edwards
For generations, Loma Alta Park was more than just a park — it was the heartbeat of Altadena. It was where children played their first games, families gathered for community events and neighbors connected in a shared love for recreation and the outdoors. But when the Eaton Fire devastated the area, it not only displaced families but also stripped the community of a vital space that had long served as a pillar of strength and belonging.

Now, as the park prepares for its scheduled reopening in May, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF), in partnership with the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation, is stepping up to restore that sense of community by developing two new Dodgers Dreamfields. These fields will be a powerful symbol of resilience, hope, and the power of sports to bring people together after hardship.
“We are proud to partner in the reimagining of Loma Alta Park by bringing two new Dodgers Dreamfields to Altadena,” said Nichol Whiteman, CEO of LADF. “These fields will stand as a testament to the community’s strength, providing a safe space for youth and their families as they heal.”

Loma Alta Park’s revitalization is about more than just rebuilding — it’s about creating new opportunities for play, growth and connection. As the first park in Altadena to reopen after the fire, it will once again serve as a hub for multi-generational programming, providing essential services for families and ensuring that local youth have a safe place to develop both on and off the field. The Dodgers Dreamfields will help bring baseball and softball back to the community while also supporting Central Altadena Little League, giving young athletes the chance to play in their own neighborhood.
To rally support for this vital effort, proceeds from LADF’s Opening Day and Ring Ceremony Day 50/50 raffles at Dodger Stadium will go directly toward the development of these new fields and ongoing relief efforts. LADF has long been committed to revitalizing green spaces, investing over $20 million to build and refurbish 65 Dodgers Dreamfields, providing more than 400,000 kids access to playable baseball and softball fields.
“We are incredibly grateful to partner with the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation to bring youth baseball and softball programming to Loma Alta Park through Dodgers Dreamfields, as part of the Eaton Fire recovery efforts in Altadena,” said Norma E. García-González, director of the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation. “Parks are essential to building healthier, happier and more connected communities, and Loma Alta Park is truly the heartbeat of this neighborhood. With Loma Alta Park being the first park in Altadena to reopen, having access to these upgraded fields will create invaluable opportunities for local youth.”
LADF and the Los Angeles Dodgers remain dedicated to standing alongside Angelenos in times of crisis. From supporting first responders to providing relief for displaced families, their commitment to community restoration goes far beyond the baseball diamond. These new Dodgers Dreamfields at Loma Alta Park will ensure that Altadena’s young athletes and families have a safe, welcoming space to heal, play, and thrive for years to come.
