2025 NLDS: At long last — Glasnow makes his Dodger postseason debut

by Megan Garcia
When constructing the postseason roster, there was a good problem that awaited Dodger manager Dave Roberts — a plethora of dominant starting pitchers. So, it queued the strategy making.
Among those plans for October baseball was a new name. It was also familiar, given his 40 starts in two seasons for the Dodgers.
But at long last, Tyler Glasnow was finally on the Dodgers’ postseason roster.
A right-elbow sprain ruled him out of last year’s championship run. So, when he came out of the bullpen on Saturday in the 5–3 win, it was his October debut for the Dodgers. He pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
And he’s also the potential starter in a potential NLDS Game 4 against the Phillies.
But when he came into relief on Saturday, it was finally time for him to pitch in the postseason as a Dodger.
“I was in the bathroom when the phone rang, and they yelled my name. I was like, ‘Alright, here we go,’” Glasnow said. “I ran up and warmed up. It definitely felt weird, but also fun (and more) adrenaline. You kind of have more things going, (don’t) need as much effort to get the same stuff.”
Glasnow struck out two of the eight batters he faced. His two walks in the eighth helped the Phillies load the bases, but the Dodgers thwarted a comeback attempt when Alex Vesia recorded a flyout to end the eighth.

The experience gave him a preview of what could come if he pitches again in this series.
“I feel like they didn’t bite at any of the sliders, really. A couple of good curve balls, kind of leaving it up. Heater early was pulled, but got a little bit better,” Glasnow said. “But it’s good to face them early in a situation like that and then just ready for the start.”
The stacked regular-season ending starting rotation of Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Clayton Kershaw, Emmet Sheehan and Glasnow has pushed a few arms to the bullpen. The 6-foot-8-inch right-hander was one of them — temporarily.
The Dodgers took advantage of their strength on Saturday by deploying Glasnow.
“Whatever they want me to do, I’m ready for it.” Glasnow said.

Glasnow last pitched in a game on Sept. 27 during the regular season. His three scoreless innings against the Mariners were part of the blueprint for prepping him for shorter outings.
The Wild Card Series against the Reds lined up Snell, Yamamoto and Ohtani as starters. Glasnow was available out of the bullpen for the series.
But since he wasn’t used against the Reds, things lined up for Saturday against the Phillies.
“It was kind of nice. The adrenaline boost was different. I kind of enjoyed it.” Glasnow said.
Glasnow kept opposing hitters to a .177 batting average this season, while his .310 opposing slugging percentage was his lowest mark since 2022.
After he returned from a two-month stint on the injured list in July, Glasnow had a 2.86 ERA through 72 1/3 innings (13 starts). He finished the season with a 3.19 ERA in 18 starts.
