2025 NLCS: Max Muncy — the new Dodger postseason home run king

by Cary Osborne
Max Muncy had to wait a day to become the greatest home run hitter in Dodger postseason history. His 404-foot double play in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series in Milwaukee — one of the wildest postseason plays in recent Dodger history — was a few feet short of his 14th career home run in the postseason.
So, he went eight feet more on Tuesday.
Muncy hit a solo home run in the sixth inning in Game 2 of the NLCS, giving the Dodgers a 3–1 lead at the time and knocking out Brewers ace Freddy Peralta.
Muncy was going to be Peralta’s last batter, but his was a demoralizing shot to the Brewers in the Dodgers’ 5–1 victory.
Muncy’s 14th postseason homer as a Dodger makes him the franchise leader. He came into the game tied with Justin Turner and Corey Seager for first on the all-time list with 13.

“It means a lot to me,” Muncy said. “The Dodgers are a franchise that have been around for a very, very long time. A lot of very successful players have played in this organization. And to be able to break that record is kind of huge for me.
“But the biggest thing I would say is it speaks to the fact that I’ve had a chance to play in so many postseason games. And that’s the biggest thing about being a Dodger, you know you’ll have a chance in October to play meaningful baseball games.”
Muncy has played in 70 postseason games over eight postseasons with the Dodgers. He ranks fourth in Dodger history in postseason games. He tied Justin Turner for the franchise postseason record for runs scored with 43.
Muncy homered in his first career postseason game — Game 1 of the 2018 National League Division Series against the Braves. He hit a walk-off home run in the 18th inning of Game 3 of the 2018 World Series. He has homered in the 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2024 and now, the 2025 postseason.
“To be able to have that chance every single year I’ve been here, that’s always been the most important thing to me,” Muncy said. “You get as many chances as you can to win that World Series. That’s the reason why you play this game.
“It’s a whole little history and a great organization like the Dodgers, it’s huge.”
