THE GAME: For the second consecutive game, the Angels rallied in the ninth inning for a victory, getting past the Seattle Mariners, 7-6, on Tuesday in Peoria, Ariz.
PITCHING REPORT: No. 2 prospect George Klassen received the start and the right-hander and went three innings while allowing two runs on second-inning home runs from Patrick Wisdom and Rhylan Thomas. Klassen allowed three hits with one walk and four strikeouts. “The more he gets out there, the more comfortable he’s going to be,” Manager Kurt Suzuki said about Klassen, who went two scoreless innings in his spring debut last week against the Padres. “That’s what we really want, the experience for these younger players, pitching against a good big league lineup.” … Each of the first four Angels pitchers gave up a run, with Brent Suter and Tayler Saucedo each giving up one run in one inning, while Ryan Zeferjahn gave up two runs in one inning. … Huascar Ynoa pitched a scoreless seventh and Shaun Anderson went two scoreless innings to finish off the comeback victory.
HITTING REPORT: After he delivered a game-ending RBI single on Monday, Yolmer Sanchez had a two-run double in the ninth inning for a 6-6 tie and Donovan Walton had a go-ahead RBI single two batters later. … Jeimer Candelario received the start at first base and hit a long two-run home run to right field in the fourth inning while batting left-handed. The 10-year veteran, who has 110 career home runs, signed with the Angels last month. … While batting right-handed in the sixth, Caldelario crushed a double off the wall in center. He had an American League-best 42 doubles for the Detroit Tigers in 2021. … Chris Taylor batted leadoff and had a double in four at-bats.
DEFENSE REPORT: With third baseman Yoan Moncada away on WBC duty with Cuba’s national team, Christian Moore received a start at third. … Moore and catcher Logan O’Hoppe nearly collided on a foul ball in front of the Mariners’ dugout before O’Hoppe made the catch to end the fourth inning. One inning later, Moore caught a foul ball in nearly the same spot as O’Hoppe remained out of harm’s way. … Neither Sanchez at second base nor shortstop Kyren Paris could get a handle on a slow grounder up the middle by Spencer Packard, leading to an RBI single in the sixth inning.
