The Angels signed Dominican shortstop Yeison Horton on Thursday, the first day of the international signing period.
Horton is ranked as the No. 15 overall international prospect by Baseball America, making him the highest ranked of the players connected to the Angels leading up to the signing day.
Horton reportedly received a bonus of $2 million, which accounts for the largest chunk of their $6.7 million limit.
Horton was initially expected to sign with the Yankees before landing with the Angels. He is projected as a speedy, glove-first middle infielder.
The Angels also signed Dominican outfielder Carlos Castillo (ranked No. 49 by Baseball America) and Dominican outfielder Anderson Rodriguez (No. 78). Castillo received $1 million.
Rodriguez is the son of Henry Rodriguez, who spent 11 years in the majors. He is already 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, with a powerful left-handed swing, according to Baseball America.
The highest-rated pitcher they signed was Dominican right-hander Kendri Faña (No. 94).
The Angels are expected to announce all of their signings by the end of the day.
