The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim placed Anthony Rendon on the 10-day Injured List with a strained left oblique. In addition, reliever Ben Joyce was placed on the Injured List for shoulder inflammation. To fill out the 40-man roster, the Angels have recalled reliever Guillo Zuñiga and infielder Eric Wagaman from Triple-A Salt Lake. Reliever Matt Moore was moved to the 60-day I.L., which means the veteran will not return this season.

Oft-Injured Angel
Unfortunately, this is Anthony Rendon’s third time on the injured list this season alone and the 12th time in his Angels career. Although the team won’t say it, he is probably done for the year, as oblique injuries are slow to heal. The infielder has a .218 batting average with no home runs this year. He has yet to play in more than 58 games in each of the past five years as an Angel. Rendon is owed 76 million over the next two years,
Flame-Thrower Out Of Gas?
Ben Joyce has not pitched in a week due to shoulder soreness. The injury is not thought to be serious or season-ending. The right-handed reliever made headlines last week when he topped 105 mph. on the radar gun against the Los Angeles Dodgers Tommy Edman. He has an impressive 2.08 Earned Run Average and has the arsenal to become a closer.
The Replacements
This will be Eric Wagaman’s first taste of the big leagues. The Halos selected him from the New York Yankees’ organization in the Rule 5 Draft this past off-season. The local kid from Orange County grew up an Angels fan.
The young right-hander Zuniga has spent eight seasons in the minors, working with the Dodgers and Braves organizations before joining the Angels’ minor league system in 2024.
The Halos hope that these rookies light the way to a bright future that goes well beyond 2025.
