The deal is totally, officially done.
The news we’ve been waiting for is official, as LAFC announced on Monday they’ve signed forward Cristian “Chicho” Arango from Colombian side Millonarios.
The 26-year-old was signed using Targeted Allocation Money, and will understandably occupy an international roster slot on LAFC’s squad.
“Cristian is an accomplished striker and an important acquisition for us at this stage of the season,” said LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington in a team statement. “We believe that he will be a great fit and, given his age and experience, will help us now and into the future.”
Arango is coming off his best season as a pro, as one of the leading scorers in Colombia with Millonarios last season. Arango is not an international, but he’s drawn prior interest in Europe, previously on Portuguese giant Benfica’s books, although he spent his time in Portugal on loan elsewhere.
Perhaps most importantly, LAFC have had good luck in signing Colombians so far, from Eduard Atuesta to Eddie Segura and Jesus David Murillo. If Arango can adjust to his surroundings quickly and contribute, he’ll become a fan favorite in no time. Here’s hoping that’s what we see.
