A chaotic finish to a match with plenty of goals, ends with LAFC taking 3 points.
It’s been a while since we’ve said this, but LAFC made some history, for the good reasons on Sunday. Coming into tonight, the black and gold were looking to build off the win last week, and get back in the playoff picture. A 3-2 win over Real Salt Lake, at home, is just what they needed as the regular season nears its close.
Cristian “Chicho” Arango continued his incredible run of form with LAFC, wasting no time putting the home side ahead. Officially the fastest goal ever scored for the black and gold, Arango needed just the first 20 seconds to find the back of the net.
That was quick!

The first half fireworks continued, though this time for Real Salt Lake. In what has become a habit, Damir Kreilach once again scored at The Banc, this time a banger from outside the box to put his side level midway through the first half.

However, Arango wasn’t going to be upstaged at home. A perfect ball in from Eduard Atuesta was headed home by Chicho for his second of the match, and the lead going into the halftime break.

Typical MLS chaos only intensified in the second half. Real Salt Lake had the fast start this time around, with Anderson Julio timing his run perfectly to stay onside, then kept calm to put the shot into the back of the net for another equalizer.
Then it happened. The most head-scratching own goal you’ll see in the sport. A back-pass gone awry, slowly rolled past the line, and into the back of the net for the LAFC lead.

The mental lapse would be the last goal of the night, with RSL not only handing LAFC the three points, but opening the door for their playoff push. After tonight’s win, the black and gold are now tied on points with RSL for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. LAFC will pack up and hit the road midweek, as they face Austin FC, on Wednesday, September 15th.
