It’s quite likely a must-win game for the G’s!
The LA Galaxy are very much still alive in the playoff race in the Western Conference, but they need to pick up a win on Monday, when they face the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field, to give themselves the best shot for making the postseason.
LA last played last midweek, falling 2-0 to Sporting Kansas City to cut their cushion in the standings to virtually nothing. They are in the last playoff place, just a point ahead of the closest team below them, Real Salt Lake, who also have a game in hand after the Galaxy play this one against the Sounders. So a win is kind of a must, or else they are at the mercy of other teams messing up.
The Sounders, meanwhile, have stumbled themselves lately, going from having a shot at the Supporters’ Shield to now on a four-game winless run, most recently falling flat 3-0 to LAFC last week. They are still a good team and will likely have some players back they’ve been missing, including the long-awaited return of Jordan Morris, but there is also the chance they’ve just hit a wall for this season and won’t recover. That will certainly be LA’s hope here!
Jorge Villafaña remains on the injury report, at questionable, and is the only Galaxy player on it once again. For the Sounders, Will Bruin (knee) and Jordy Delem (ACL) are out, while Jimmy Medranda (hamstring) and Raul Ruidiaz (hamstring) are both listed questionable.
So, can LA keep the pressure up with a needed victory ahead of the regular season closer? Will they stumble and make Decision Day truly meaningful? We’ll see what happens.
Odds:
According to our friends at DraftKings Sportsbook, as of Sunday afternoon, LA are (+320), Seattle are (-115) and a draw is at (+285). LA are big underdogs once again, and last time, they managed to flip the expectations, can they do it again on the road?
