Chicharito looks poised to make his return in Colorado, as the Galaxy getting healthy at the perfect time.
LA Galaxy Head Coach Greg Vanney spoke to media on Thursday ahead of the team’s visit to Colorado, when they face the Rapids this Saturday. While things were kept brief, a definite tone was set, as well as some welcome news that we have long been waiting for.
First, the reason you’re all here, the status of Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez. Luckily, it’s great news.
“He’s doing great. Part of him not being a part of All-Star and LAFC was to give him that time to recover. He’s trained all week, and he feels good, looks good, and he’ll be available this week” said Vanney.
While the news will surely please fans who’ve waited for this moment since he went off with the injury, back in June. It also means a lot to the team, who have done well to keep themselves in the fight for first in the Western Conference, despite his absence.
“Chicha is doing well the last couple of weeks” said Galaxy midfielder Victor Vázquez. “He’s feeling much better, of course he’s not at his 100%, but you can see, when Chicha is back in training the feelings are good. It’s easy to play with him and I think he’s ready to be back on Saturday.”
Whether Javier gets put into the starting XI, or how long he plays for on Saturday, is up to Vanney and staff. Colorado are a tough opponent, and playing on the road, in that altitude, may make it hard for him to see a full 90 upon his return. Either way, whether it’s a full 90, or less than a half, it will be great seeing him back out on the pitch. For the LA Galaxy, with a busy September ahead, and the playoff race in full swing, there’s no better time for a fully fit squad.
