The Kings agreed to terms with free-agent defenseman Alex Edler, signing the veteran to a one-year deal worth $3.5 million.
Edler, 35, had 401 points in 873 games before a down year offensively last season that saw him score just eight points in 52 appearances.
Edler had played his entire career for the Canucks, debuting in the 2006-7 season. He was a member of their 2011 roster, which came within one victory of the franchise’s first Stanley Cup.
The following season, Edler posted a career-high 49 points. He has also competed for the Swedish national team at three World Championships and the 2014 Olympics.
He is a well-rounded and experienced rearguard who figures to be a bridge player for the Kings as they continue to develop younger defensemen.
