The Rams Had A Scare With Matthew Stafford On Monday

Matthew Stafford had a major injury scare at the end of the Los Angeles Rams‘ practice on Monday.

According to Kevin Modesti of Daily News, Stafford hit his throwing-hand thumb on a helmet in the final moments of Monday’s practice. He wound up getting the thumb wrapped, but was seen carrying his helmet with the same hand once practice concluded.

“The Rams got a scare when QB Matthew Stafford hit his throwing thumb on a helmet near the end of practice,” Modesti said on Twitter. “Stafford left the field with the thumb wrapped, but holding his helmet with that hand.”

It sounds like Stafford avoided a potentially serious injury, but the Rams aren’t out of the clear just yet. Head coach Sean McVay said he thinks Stafford will be “okay,” but he isn’t sure just yet.

“I don’t know anything yet,” McVay said regarding Stafford’s potential thumb injury. “I think he’ll be OK.”

The Rams’ Matthew Stafford had surgery last winter to repair a torn ligament in the thumb after hurting it in a November game, an injury he played through the rest of the Lions’ season.

This is obviously a concerning update, especially considering Matthew Stafford had surgery on the same thumb last winter. We’ll have to wait to find out more information.

The Rams acquired Stafford in a trade with the Detroit Lions earlier this year. Los Angeles is a legitimate Super Bowl contender with the veteran quarterback under center in what’s expected to be an elite offense.

As long as Stafford stays healthy, the Rams will go far. It’s not a given though, especially in today’s NFL. Let’s hope he stays healthy.
