Sean McVay Not Concerned About Rams Getting No. 1 Seed

December 6, 2025 by Rams Nation

The NFC is as stacked as ever and the Los Angeles Rams are right in the middle of things heading into Week 14.

At 9-3, the Rams are tied for the best record in the conference, but are also tied for first place in the NFC West. The standings are very bunched up, meaning whoever comes out on top at the end will have earned it.

The Rams are coming off a rough loss to the Carolina Panthers, but their most important football is still ahead of them as they look to wrap up their division and get the highest seed possible.

Only the No. 1 seed gets a bye so that should be the goal, although Rams head coach Sean McVay explained why he’s not concerned about it.

“I don’t track it in the least bit. It’s not important to me at all,” McVay said. “What’s important to me is us being totally and completely present today. We have no guarantee to play past 17 games. The only thing that I know and that I fully believe is that our ability to be totally and completely present have a great Wednesday and put ourselves in a position to earn the right to feel confident to be able to go forward against the Cardinals. There were a lot of good things that we can learn from that game, whether we win or lose. When you come up short, I think it’s a great opportunity for us to be what we want to be about and that is the furthest thing… Our goal is to try to prepare to get the result we want week in and week out. Those other things take care of themselves. That is not in the least bit of my concern. I want us to get back to playing the better quality football that we’ve been accustomed to seeing that we didn’t do the other day.”

As McVay stated, the Rams are focused on beating the Arizona Cardinals in Week 14. He has always been good at keeping his team focused on the task at hand and that is the case once again as L.A. heads into the home stretch of the regular season.

Considering the Rams have dealt with some injuries in recent weeks though and Matthew Stafford is 37 years of age, locking up the No. 1 seed and getting a bye in the first round of the playoffs would definitely be ideal.

Sean McVay excited to see how Rams respond to Panthers loss

The Rams’ loss to the Panthers was the first adversity the team has faced in months and head coach Sean McVay is excited to see how they respond to it in Week 14 against the Cardinals.
