Los Angeles Rams News and Links for 12/19/23
The Los Angeles Rams will take on the New Orleans Saints and quarterback Derek Carr this week. Last season LA famously surprsied Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders with a thrilling Thursday night win. Baker Mayfield was the quarterback for the Rams in that one. Do you think Carr remembers that game? Do you think that history can play into this game at all? Do you expect LA to win this game and keep momentum going?
Are you appreciative for what Mayfield has done and is doing for LA?
Please comment on whatever you’d like and have a great Tuesday!

Derek Carr elevated above the criticism to deliver his best Saints performance to date (nola.com)
“When you surround yourself with the right people and the right voices, they remind you who you are,” Carr said. “We all know we’ve had hard times and good times. You can feel too good about yourself, and sometimes you can feel too down about yourself, too. It’s good to have people like that around you to remind you what you’re capable of every day.”
The game that unfolded Sunday was the type of game Carr expected when he signed with the Saints this offseason.
Expectations are an important part of the Carr conversation. They come with the contract and the position, but they also come with the situation he walked into in New Orleans and the history he’s trying to follow.”

Saints, Rams on collision course to compete for NFC’s 7th playoff seed (saintswire)
“The Rams are slotted in just ahead of the Saints in the NFC playoff standings; if the postseason started today, Los Angeles would round out the playoff picture as the No. 7 seed, with New Orleans watching from home at No. 8. A win at SoFi Stadium on Thursday wouldn’t clinch anything for the Saints, but it would be a powerful statement that their playoff ambitions are just as legitimate as the Rams’ are.
And of course it’s the Rams. They’re one of the Saints’ oldest rivals, dating back to their shared history in the old NFC West. New Orleans has logged more wins (35) and losses (43) against the Los Angeles than many other teams even if they aren’t playing each other as often as they used to. It’s almost karmic that they are the hurdle between the Saints and a playoff berth.”

In playoff position after 4 wins in 5, the Rams credit their stretch surge to a good bye (washingtonpost)
“With four wins in five games since their bye week, the Rams (7-7) have surged into NFC playoff position heading into a short week of preparation for a high-stakes game against New Orleans (7-7) on Thursday night.
The Rams were considered maybe a borderline postseason contender by most prognosticators four months ago after they parted ways with a major amount of talent in their bid to alleviate their salary cap crunch. They were a disappointing 3-6 when they hit their bye week in mid-November, but they’ve earned a clear opportunity to get a wild-card spot with impressive play ever since.”

NFL Week 15 grades: Cowboys hit with an ‘F’ for blowout loss to Bills, 49ers earn an ‘A’ for beating Cardinals (cbssports)
“Well, well, well, look who’s playing like a serious playoff contender. The Rams are suddenly one of the hottest teams in the league and a big reason for that is because their offense is firing on all cylinders. With Kyren Williams (152 yards) leading the way, the Rams have been getting some serious production out of their rushing attack, which has taken some pressure off of Matthew Stafford. The Rams QB was nearly perfect on Sunday, completing 75.8% of his passes for 258 yards and two touchdowns. Stafford’s favorite target was Cooper Kupp, who topped 110 yards for the second week in a row. The Rams are playing so well that at this point, it would be a surprise if they DON’T make the playoffs.”
