The NFL has officially announced the schedule for the 2024 regular season, so the Los Angeles Rams now know the road they must travel in order to return to the postseason and build off last year’s success.
But before the regular season kicks off, head coach Sean McVay must lead the Rams through training camp and, of course, the preseason in order to be ready for when the games count.
The Rams will have three preseason games this year, taking on the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Chargers and Houston Texans.
Things start off for the Rams at home against the Cowboys, a solid first test against another NFC playoff team. Last season, the Cowboys embarrassed the Rams, 43-20, in Week 8 of the regular season. Technically the Rams’ second preseason game is a ‘road’ contest, but it is against the Chargers, who also play at SoFi Stadium so travel won’t be necessary.
L.A. will end the preseason on the road against the Houston Texans, a team like the Rams who are looking to build off an unexpected successful 2023 season and playoff appearance. And the two teams will be very familiar with each other by the time they take the field as the Texans will be hosting the Rams for joint practice sessions as well.
This will be a very interesting season for the Rams after surprising many with their run to the playoffs. But McVay and the Rams will need to overcome the loss of the greatest player in franchise history and one of the greatest defenders ever in Aaron Donald, who retired from football.
The Rams made some good moves in the offseason, helping to shore up the offensive line by signing Kevin Dotson and Jonah Jackson while also drafting Michigan running back Blake Corum in the third-round of the NFL Draft to back up Kyren Williams.
The franchise also looked to improve the defense by taking a flyer on cornerback Tre’Davious White, who is coming off injury while also spending their first two draft picks on pass rusher Jared Verse and defensive tackle Braden Fiske, both from Florida State.
The season is fast approaching and the road ahead is clear for McVay and the rest of the Rams to have a successful 2024 season and maintain the momentum they built last year.
