LOS ANGELES — Rams wide receiver Davante Adams (hamstring) and right tackle Rob Havenstein (ankle) were limited participants in practice on Friday and, while they will be listed as questionable, are expected to play against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
“Feel good about them being able to go,” head coach Sean McVay told reporters before Friday’s practice. “These guys are veterans that have accumulated a lot of experience.”
Adams said he’s felt some progress with his hamstring after not practicing Wednesday and Thursday and taking the extra rest to allow it to heal.
“Just be smart about how we move, just paying attention to it more than anything,” Adams said. “It wasn’t like a moment or anything. It’s just kind of a feeling that you have sometimes after a game. Can’t even really pinpoint when it happened, it wasn’t like an event, but it’s just a lot of wear and tear.”
McVay said while the Rams will monitor Adams if he plays Sunday, there would be no limit to the amount of snaps he would play, adding, “If I told him that, I think he would say, ‘Nah, I ain’t doing that.’”
But with a Thursday night game against the San Francisco 49ers looming next week, the Rams (2-1) are following the veteran Adams’ lead when it comes to his recovery. And with his level of experience, McVay was not concerned about the missed practice reps.
“He’s got such a good understanding of his body,” McVay said. “I think he’s one of those guys that he does such a great job in the walk-throughs, staying engaged. And if it’s going to be best for him to feel his best on Sunday, it’s absolutely the right approach.”
Left guard Steve Avila had his first full practice Friday since he sprained his ankle in Week 1. He did not have a designation on the team’s injury report Friday, clearing the way for him to return against the Colts (3-0).
“I’ve been pleased with Steve,” McVay said. “He’s done a great job to be able to attack his rehab and he’s taken steps in the right direction.”
With Avila tracking toward a return and Havenstein questionable for Sunday, the Rams are again dealing with a lot of moving parts on the offensive line, as they have done each of the past three seasons.
“You better have depth. Being in Year 9, you just look at it, you better have 8-10 guys that you feel really good about,” McVay said. “You have some of those fortunate years where maybe only five or six play, but man, that is such an outlier. If you just look around the league, you better feel good about it.”
Guard Justin Dedich (chest) practiced in full Friday. Tight end Colby Parkinson (shoulder) was limited, but McVay expects him to play against the Colts despite listing him as questionable for the game.
Receiver Puka Nacua, left tackle Alaric Jackson and tight end Tyler Higbee got veteran rest days on Friday. Higbee popped up on the injury report with a sore hip Thursday, but McVay said after checking out the injury, the Rams don’t feel like it’s an issue even though he is still listed as questionable against the Colts.
