The Los Angeles Rams were in desperate need of help at the running back position, which is why they acquired Sony Michel in a trade with the New England Patriots on Wednesday.
Michel, 26, was selected by the Patriots in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. In three seasons with the Patriots, he had 535 carries for 2,292 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Now that Michel will spend the 2021 season on the Rams, he has decided to switch things up. On Thursday night, he revealed his new jersey number for this fall.
Michel will be wearing No. 14 for Los Angeles this upcoming season. He spent the past three years wearing No. 26 in New England.
“New City who dis? The number… we’ll talk about that later,” Michel wrote on Instagram.
Although he didn’t live up to his potential, Michel will be missed in Foxborough. Patriots running back James White admit that seeing Michel go was a tough pill to swallow.
“Definitely tough. That’s my guy,” White said, via Audacy. “Being with him since his rookie year, kind of helping him become the player he is today and he’s gotten better and better each year. It’s tough to see him go, for sure. He’s a hard worker, tough guy. Definitely puts the team first. Definitely going to miss him, but best of luck to him.”
Michel will most likely compete with Darrell Henderson Jr. for the starting job in Los Angeles.
