Rashawn Slater is in the building for Chargers promo day

Despite not appearing at OTAs thus far, left tackle Rashawn Slater is back in the building for the Chargers shooting media promos.

Thus far through OTAs, Chargers left tackle Rashawn Slater has not been in attendance. OTAs are not mandatory so this isn’t the largest cause for concern, but it was still noteworthy given that Slater hadn’t missed an OTA since joining the team in 2021.

This offseason is different, however. Slater and his camp are still in the middle of negotiating a new contract for Slater as he enters the final year of his rookie contract. Given that the star blindside protector is more than deserving of an increase in pay, the decision to sit out a voluntary set of practices to evade unnecessary risk of injury is understandable.

Now while it might not hold much insight into how contract talks have been going, it’s still worth spotlighting that Slater is currently back in the building on Monday to shoot promo videos for the Chargers.

Since we haven’t seen Slater with the team at all since OTAs started, this is just a positive sight in general. This team cannot go nearly as far as it wants to in 2025 without Slater so the hope is that a deal gets done as soon as possible to hurry up and get this all behind them. With the team’s mandatory minicamp starting on Tuesday, one could wonder if both sides are nearly at the finish line and have a deal close to being done just in time for Slater to be in attendance.
