The Los Angeles Chargers have added a new quarterback to the roster as they continue training camp. And it’s someone who knows the state of California very well.
On Sunday, the Chargers announced that they have signed K. J. Costello to a contract. In an official statement, the team said that Costello joined them for rookie minicamp after going undrafted.
Costello is a California native who spent four years playing quarterback at Stanford before going to Mississippi State as a graduate transfer. He got his first playing time as a sophomore in 2017 and quickly impressed head coach Kevin Shaw.
In 2018, Costello started the entire season and finished the year with 3,540 passing yards and 29 touchdowns while completing 65-percent of his passes. He earned Second-Team All-Pac-12 honors as the Cardinals finished 9-4 with a Sun Bowl win over Pitt.
The following season he transferred to Mississippi State.

In his first game as the Bulldogs’ starter, K. J. Costello broke the SEC record for passing yards in a single game with 623 yards against LSU.
But after struggling in the next few games, Costello lost the starting job to Will Rogers, who finished out the season. He finished that season with 1,283 passing yards and six touchdowns with 11 interceptions.
Despite a rough finish to his college career, he’s getting a rare chance at the NFL in Chargers training camp.
Good luck in Los Angeles.
