Justin Herbert is next up for a massive quarterback extension.
Herbert has been participating in OTAs and mandatory minicamp despite reported ongoing contract negotiations with the Los Angeles Chargers. That being said, he could still “hold in” and refuse to participate in training camp.
When asked about this possibility, Herbert gave an unclear but telling response:
“I guess we’ll see,” he replied.

“The role of a quarterback is to be out there for his team and do everything he can to put that team in a position to win,” Herbert added.
Herbert is heading into the fourth year of his rookie contract with the Chargers. Under his current deal, the star quarterback will earn a bargain base salary of $4.2 million. His club exercised fifth-year option balloons to $29.504 million in 2024.
Head coach Brandon Staley is “hopeful, confident” that a deal for Herbert will get done “when it’s supposed to happen.”
