The Chargers were amongst the franchises with the biggest jump in ranking from 2024 to 2025.
The Chargers have been one of the worst-graded teams in the league over the past few years since the NFLPA began releasing their report cards, but after the team moved to The Bolt in El Segundo, things have taken a drastic turn upward.
After coming in ranked 30th out of 32 teams in the 2024 edition of these report cards, the Chargers zoomed all the way up to 5th. There’s still some room to improve in certain areas, but this year’s grades are a huge improvement and hopefully spell bigger and better things for the team in years to come.
Here are the team’s grades in each category, along with where it ranks among the 32 franchises.
Treatment of Families: C (20th)
- Both the Chargers and Rams have received poor grades in this area the past few seasons mainly due to their being a lack of space for player families to congregate during game days. Parking passes are reportedly also hard to come by for player families.
Food/Dining Area: A- (8th)
- The Chargers ranked inside the top 11 in all three categories of taste (11th), freshness (10th), and dining area quality (6th).
Nutritionist/Dietician: B+ (11th)
- 96 percent of players say they are able to get an individualized nutrition plan which ranks the Chargers 5th among all teams. When it comes to accessibility of their team dietician, they rank 16th out of 32 teams.
Locker Room: A (5th)
- Moving to The Bolt has obviously done a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to their improved grades for team facilities. The locker room is now a top five facility in the NFL.
- The Chargers rank 9th in locker room space and 6th in individual locker size.
Training Room: A- (3rd)
- The Chargers rank 7th and 5th in number of full-time trainers and full-time physical therapists available, respectively.
- However, they rank 19th in terms of having enough hot tub space and 14th in having enough cold tub space.
Training Staff: A- (3rd)
- The Chargers are one of the best at giving enough one-on-one time with training staff, ranking 2nd out of 32 teams.
- A lot of players also feel the training staff contributes to their overall team success, ranking 6th out of 32 teams.
Weight Room: A+ (3rd)
- With a whole new weight room at The Bolt, it’s good to see this grade so high. The Chargers rank 3rd in both weight room quality and adequate weight room space.
Strength Coaches: A (5th)
- Ben Herbert has been earning his keep with the Chargers. Players feel Herbert greatly contributes to the team’s overall success, ranking 4th among the 32 teams.
- 96 percent of players feel like they get an individualized training plan, which ranks 10th among all teams.
Team Travel: C+ (25th)
- This is the other big area the Chargers could improve in. Only 76 percent of the team feel like there’s enough space on team flights which ranks 25th in the league.
- As far as their travel schedule, the players feel like it could be more efficient. The Chargers rank 27th out of 32 in this area.
Head Coach: B+ (22nd)
- You’d think this category would be higher, but the players say otherwise. Only 55 percent of players say that Jim Harbaugh is efficient with the team’s time. That ranks dead last among 32 head coaches.
- Players feel Harbaugh is only moderately receptive to feedback about the locker room, ranking him 26th out of 32 head coaches.
Ownership: A (5th)
- Dean Spanos and team ownership got a sterling grade this year. They ranked 5th in perceived willingness to invest in the team’s facilities.
- Players feel that Spanos significiantly contributes to a positive team culture and that’s he’s extremely committed to building a competitive team. He ranks 10th in both of these categories.
