The Rams did not manage to trade DeSean Jackson prior to Tuesday’s deadline which means the 34-year old will be subject to waivers. With the Bolts 20th in waiver priority, there’s a good chance they could miss out on acquiring his services. However, should the veteran clear waivers altogether, he’d be an interesting pickup with this offense severely in need of a consistent threat to take the top off of opposing defenses.
Keep in mind, it wasn’t injury that forced the Rams to part with Jackson, it was a lack of opportunities and Sean McVay wanted to do right by him. Jackson finished his time with the Rams with eight receptions fro 221 yards and a long 75-yard touchdown, so we all know he’s still got that type of juice in the tank.
Jalen Guyton, the team’s current deep threat, has just 10 receptions on 20 targets with zero touchdowns. Herbert has missed him on at least one deep ball down the sideline this season so his stats could be looking better, but it’s bothersome that both the Ravens and Patriots were able to put a cap on the team’s top two wideouts with no threat of a third one picking up the slack. No defense is worried about Guyton and that is an area I believe the team needs to change.
So let me know what you all think in the comments and maybe we’ll see the Chargers keep the the vet in his home state once more.
