I don’t think Sunday’s outcome was what any of us expected coming out of the bye week. The Ravens game was a tough one to swallow, but at least it was easy to accept that sometimes, simply, you can get your a** kicked on any given Sunday.
But this 27-24 loss to the Patriots wasn’t one of those Sundays where you just tip your cap to the opponent and keep trucking on forward. There were issues. Real, tangible issues that came up, again, despite having roughly two whole weeks to prepare for this one opponent.
The inefficiency on early downs were still there. Penalties at inopportune times? Also still there. Now add in some miscommunication between Herbert and his skill players and you’ve got an even more gross cocktail of problems that this coaching staff must figure out if they don’t want to see their season derailed by things well within their control.
I’ll save the rest of my thoughts for other pieces of content this week, but as always, please feel free to continue the conversation from last night in the comments below.
