Every week of the college football season, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit cites the team that impressed him most over the previous weekend.
With Week 1 now behind us, Herbstreit revealed his top performing teams. It’s a pretty long list as well, with eight programs making the cut.
Right at the top is Chip Kelly’s UCLA Bruins, which landed a marquee win by knocking off No. 16 LSU on Saturday. Speaking of big wins, Virginia Tech is second on Herbstreit’s list. The Hokies took down a top-10 North Carolina team on Friday.
Georgia had the best win of Week 1, as its defense dominated Clemson. Iowa also had an impressive W, thumping a ranked Indiana squad.
Rounding out Herbstreit’s top eight are Northern Illinois (which beat Georgia Tech), Charlotte (which beat Duke), Penn State (won at Wisconsin) and UTSA (road win at Illinois).
