Reggie Miller Reacts To Lakers’ Eventful Free Agency

August 4, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

The Los Angeles Lakers have been the talk of the NBA since free agency commenced over 24 hours ago.

The Lakers have plenty of new and familiar faces in the building. They acquired Russell Westbrook from the Wizards in a deal which sent Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Montrezl Harrell to D.C. They then lost Alex Caruso to the Chicago Bulls. The Lakers have gone on a signing spree ever since.

Dwight Howard, Trevor Ariza, Kent Bazemore and Wayne Ellington – all former Lakers players – are heading back to Los Angeles. The Lakers have also added Carmelo Anthony, Malik Monk and Kendrick Nunn. All new signees will join current Lakers LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Marc Gasol and Talen Horton-Tucker. Simply put, it’s an interesting bunch that’s capable of winning a championship.

NBA analyst Reggie Miller has a few concerns about the 2021-22 Lakers. First, how will Frank Vogel and his staff handle the rotation and player minutes? Second, the Lakers are old – will they survive an 82-game season in addition to the playoffs? Miller’s skeptical.

Frank Vogel and staff will have the most pressure next season for the @Lakers . Managing minutes of players in their mid 30’s Bron Brodie Melo and an injury prone AD, and don’t forget back to 82 games.. But I love the Trevor Ariza, Wayne Ellington and Malik Monk additions..

Age is absolutely a concern surrounding the Lakers this upcoming season. Father Time caught up with LeBron James last season when he suffered a high-ankle sprain and never made a full recovery. Anthony Davis also missed much of the season and was practically a non-factor in the playoffs.

Health will be the main storyline in Los Angeles for the next year or so. If the Lakers stay healthy – and that’s a big if – they’re championship contenders. If not, they’re a fringe playoff team.

Frank Vogel is under pressure to lead the Lakers to a second championship in three years. He’ll have to rewrite the script with so many new faces in Los Angeles.
